Gemco Construction are the successful tenderer to carry out construction on the redevelopment of the new $18 million HB Museum and Art Gallery. The new Museum and Art Gallery will be situated on it’s current site between Marine Parade & Herschell Street, from Browning Street to Tennyson Street.
The former Lilliput Building will be demolished and the existing former Borough Council Chambers building will be relocated to Byron Street, to make way for the new multi-level wing of the HBMAG facing Tennyson Street. The Holt Gallery will also be demolished to form a new link-way between the existing Gwen Malden, McLean & Bestall Galleries and the Century Theatre.
Extensive alterations and additions will be made to the interior of the basement, ground floor and first floor of the existing structure. Linkways will connect the Century Theatre to the new wing of the HBMAG. Demolition will start this week, with completion of the projects construction works by late January 2013.
