Gemco wins Napier Farmers project

Gemco Construction has been awarded the contract to build the multi-million dollar Napier Farmers Store, which is set to open in early 2013.

Gemco Managing Director Darren Diack said “it’s fantastic news as we celebrate 10 years in business” and completes the double with the firm close to completing the Farmers retail development in Hastings.

The Napier Farmers retail complex is the largest retail development undertaken in inner city Napier for several years. The two level complex has a floor area of approx. 5500m2 and will also include 2 sub tenancies.

It has been designed by Napier based Architects Paris Magdalinos Architects.

Mr Diack said his company was thrilled to secure the lead construction contract for the Napier Farmers store and the momentum it offers them.

“We have worked hard over the last 10 years to build a reputation of quality and trust in the Hawke’s Bay construction industry.

“When we have a reputable business like Farmers entrusting us with the construction of both their Hawke’s Bay stores, it’s very satisfying for us and makes all the hard work worthwhile,” Mr Diack said.

Construction has started on the Napier Farmers Store site between Hastings Street and Marine Parade and will be open for trading early in 2013.

Special features of the complex include the retention of existing Heritage Facades facing onto Hastings Street and it will be equipped with Napier’s first two escalators. Public access to Farmers will be from Hastings Street.
