Gemco were very conscious of doing a good job, we had no reason to question the quality of workmanship, in fact Gemco were more critical of their own work.
Our job did run over time however as it was a major renovation task (with a few unknowns’) and some of the plans were changed we expected some delays. It is worth noting that of all the companies who tendered for the project Gemco were most realistic about the timeframe and that any time frame changes were communicated well in advance.

Gemco Construction Ltd (Gemco) was the main contractor for the construction of a new $5.8M grandstand at the Hawke’s Bay Regional Sports Park for the Sports Park Trust.
I am a Director of N-Compass Limited. N-Compass Ltd was Hawke’s Bay Regional Sports Park Trust’s project managers for the overall sports park project. This project included the construction of a modern, 2,500 capacity grandstand. Amongst other things, I was responsible for the delivery of the grandstand on time and within budget. I worked very closely with Gemco to achieve this outcome.
The grandstand is a curved structure with extensive use of precast concrete panels, concrete bleachers as the seating base and structural steel. It was a complex building to construct due to its geometry and the precision with which the concrete panels had to fit together. The construction budget was also very tight and as this was a project by a charitable trust (relying on grants and donations) there was no scope for any cost increases.
Gemco completed the grandstand works well ahead of time and below the construction budget. Their planning and execution of complex and precision work was exemplary. They worked proactively and openly with the project team and the Trust to secure cost savings to the project that were unanticipated, which contributed to the project being below budget. All aspects of their contract with the Trust were dealt with professionally and without any aggravation what so ever. From the project teams and the Trust’s perspective, the project was a great success.
This achievement would not have been accomplished without the leadership, calm authority, commitment, drive and sheer tenacity of the Gemco team. In addition, I have found the Gemco team, namely Ashley Hartley, Derek Lawson and Eddie Holmes to be professional, competent, extremely well organised, proactive, diligent and polite through the course of this project. These are all fantastic attributes in successfully delivering any project.
Consequently, I hold Gemco in high regard and I do not have any hesitation in recommending them for any construction project.
