The Hastings Health Centre is one of the most advanced primary care medical facilities in the country, providing nearly 30,000 patients better access to a range of services usually accessed outside of the hospital environment, including urgent and after-hours medical care available in one easy-to-access central location.
With 3,200 tonne of concrete, 162 tonne of structural steel and 3,400 sheets of Gib plasterboard this was an extensive and complex project. The key to delivering such a large architectural build in a short time frame was the involvement Gemco had with the consultants and the client from the very beginning. Having this early involvement enabled us to plan each stage together and solve any issues as soon as they arose.
The health centre covers 7650sqm, including a building area of 3900sqm spread over two and a half floors, as well as 143 off-street carparks. The building has three road frontages – Nelson St North, St Aubyn St West, and King St North providing excellent access and high visibility.
The ground floor includes urgent care, radiology, ultrasound, a large pharmacy, laboratory, dentist, physiotherapy, podiatry and a coffee bar. The first floor houses the family doctor and nursing suites with 57 consulting and treatment rooms along with three reception areas. The second floor is for staff breakout, meetings, administration and management space.
