The 840m2 building includes new Art, Science, Food Technology, Hard Technology and Music spaces with an intensive landscaped area to replace the previous technology block. The complex won the 2024 NZIA Education Regional Award– Gisborne & Hawke’s Bay and the 2024 NZIA Awards: Resene Colour Award.
This was a project commissioned by the Ministry of Education, requiring it to meet specific requirements in functionality but also inspire learning.
An exciting colour scheme both internally and externally that went on to win a Resene award.
Soundproofing, especially for the music room was a key consideration as was thermal efficiency requirements such as double-glazed windows.
Cultural aspects – Heretaunga Intermediate design features included Māori motifs on glass doors and windows.
