Stage 1 comprised a 3,000 m², two-storey surgical facility with four operating theatres, full recovery areas, and ten inpatient rooms. The design prioritised patient wellbeing through the use of natural light, calming finishes, and visual connections to outdoor landscaping. Stage 2 added a 7,400 m² three-storey expansion, including a 31-bed ward, advanced imaging suite, cardiac catheterisation lab, and comprehensive cancer care centre. Built on 48 base isolators, it is the first hospital in Hawke’s Bay with seismic base-isolation. The architecture draws inspiration from the nearby Kaweka Ranges and includes sustainable design features.
